Monogamonormative is kind of brilliant.

Did you watch today's press conference? Both of them looked like they've been crying for the last two days. I can't figure out, though, how to see this outside of the context of the public-ness of this fundamentally private thing. Or, maybe, the way in which we're so totally unable to talk about love and sex in general.

I have been really stuck on this whole thing. Conflicted and acutely aware that it is really not my business.

For all we know, really, Silda and Elliot had come to a non-monogamous understanding of one sort or another long ago, and all those puffy eyes are because she wasn't expecting it to come tumbling out in so much scandal. I doubt it, but we really don't know. More plausibly, she was never really wild about his sleeping with other women but was able to ignore it most of the time, which is not the most wholesome sort of polyamory, but I suspect that is pretty common. All kinds of not very wholesome failures to communicate are pretty common, no?

I see her presence there with him as saying "this is the public part, this apology, and I'm not walking away from him. The private part, where we talk about what this means to our own marraige, you won't be invited to that."

But yeah, it is a lot to assume that she's just standing by her man.

(PS. Has that Gotham Gazette link always been there?)

ah, a much more eloquent expression of the things I was thinking. (also, I love the word monogamonormative and will be looking for places to use it.)
