I do think that there are other reasons for people questioning Obama's shot at the presidency besides race since the opposition was not just limited to Latinos and Asians. Some blacks questioned him on the basis of agenda and background. Also, there are times that Latinos and Asians helped to support Black politicians in office. But I do think race is a factor in some people's choices even as I question the motives of the media making a point of highlighting this.Race does not always seem to be the only factor but it is often a factor, and a significant one in addition to class, nationality, etc. There are usually several factors for the phenomenon seen but whether people are against him depends on personal choices, influences from family, the region they are in, their class background(what they aspire their background to be) as much as race in some cases. It is probably a case by case thing.

In my opinion many people mean well when they try to squash the notion that there is no problem between "blacks" and "people of a spanish speaking origin". I live in Los Angeles and used to work with young kids who happened to be Mexican. They would tell me point blank that there parents do not like "Blacks". They would mention the prominence of Hip Hop music in the Mexican community(High School age kids)and how the parents would ask them why they were dressing and listening to ni--er music. My take on this is this. People who are challenged economically tend to blame others for there problems. This of course includes "blacks" too. I'm going to rant a bit here but it always amazes me how some "blacks"(can I stop quoting please and I know all Spanish speaking people are not Mexican but that is where my experience lies so thats who I will reference geez) anywhoo, It always amazes me how some blacks treat people who work in the service industry. It could be an Asian doing your nails or someone you employed from in front of a Home Depot store. I have witnessed the nasty attitudes towards these people and I am sure they get it across the board but there businesses are often in minority communities.( I consider someone who stands in front of the Home Depot soliciting work to be in business for themselves). There is always that "I am better than you attitude in these communities". I really enjoyed working with the kids they told it straight and to me were just like every other race. People tend to forget that blond and blue eyes has historically been a perceived preference in the white community but let Mexicans prefer Mexicans with lighter hair and lighter eyes and one would probably try to make a case for self loathing. Everyone has preferences and predetermined attitudes that may or may not be based in fact. I would bet we all have developed some attitudes about Muslims in the last 11 years. I have my own attitudes towards people of African heritage(not African Americans in this case) I kinda blame them for slavery and now they wanna come over and try to reap economic benefits off the backs of the black people who endured slavery and Jim Crowe I am sorry but I have a problem with that. It is also my opinion that they do not like Americans who are black either(I know way prejudiced huh) but this is exactly the sort of thing that people make there decisions based on. It is not going to be based on there outwardly politically correct statements but on how they truly feel. I know that having these kinds of predetermined feelings about a whole group of people is ridiculous and I would not like anyone to group me like that(even though I know that they do).I would find myself doing things like going to the the Arab 7/11 over the one owned by Africans and people make these kind of decisions every day. It does disturb me that Hispanics supported Hilary Clinton by such a large margin over Obama. These election facts are going to be more fuel for the fire. Have you ever noticed how you can have a attitude towards a certain group of people only to be surprised by how different your new Mexican,Asian or White friend is from the others. People usually justify it by saying no but he/she is cool. Now back to my experience with the Mexican kids. They would tell me that if a black person did something to there parents or the perception thereof they would never forget that but,if a non black did the same thing they would not hold that all inclusive grudge. The kids would in some cases resent this. They would feel they had to make a choice between those old school attitudes and their reality. It is good to understand that these were kids who were holding part time jobs and going to high school so in my book I generally label them as good kids. In some instances they would refuse to help older Mexicans who spoke only Spanish by refusing to speak Spanish and in fact speaking the most perfect English you every heard. Now I am no Edward Almost by any means but that was just wrong. There reasoning is that they should know English by now. My reasoning show some respect for your elders. So how is it someone so obviously wrong in some of my attitudes feel this way. I mean I think there is a problem between blacks and Mexicans. But it normally starts when we as individuals suffer economically then we develop hard lined attitudes as to the cause.Have your every heard someone say wow he/she is different from the other members of his race. That is only because you allowed yourself to know them. There are idiots in every race but let the barometer be this if someone in your race or family for that matter did someone that you don't particularly approve of do you then dislike your entire race of family or can you see these as individual instances. I have so much more to say but I am sleepy now and have noticed the rambling has gotten worse.
